Welcome
The Florida Department of Transportation needs your help. A shocking statistic shows Pinellas County with more than twice the national average for pedestrian deaths and Hillsborough County isn’t far behind. In an effort to stem this upsetting trend we are launching the STOP AND LOOK Pedestrian Safety Campaign. Please help us save a life by following a few simple tips. Together we can make a difference.
Pedestrian Deaths
- Almost 20% of all traffic fatalities in Florida are pedestrians
- Pinellas County leads the state with almost double the national average of deaths
- Hillsborough County is a close second
Back to the Basics
- Find a safe place to cross and STOP
- Stay on the curb and LOOK both ways
- Make sure drivers can see you
- Never cross the road while on a cell phone or listening to an I-pod
- Walk straight across the road
- REMEMBER, before you cross a busy road, STOP and LOOK
- Use sidewalks whenever they are available
